New Pediatric Emergency Center Opens

On Thursday, a newly renovated emergency center opened at UK Hospital specifically designed for children.

The Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center is a renovated section of the hospital's existing emergency center.

The center is equipped with 6 beds, a waiting room and a sedation room, set aside for young patients.

It is only the second pediatric emergency department in the state.

Last year, the emergency department at UK Hospital treated 45,000 patients, 10,000 of those were children. That's why hospital officials say the new center was so important.

A brand new pediatric department is scheduled to open at the hospital in August of 2010.

I really appreciate UK Children's Hospital. They took great care of my nephew which was born a month early and was having seizures. They took very good care of him and I really appreciate it. They also took care of my friend's daughter, she was diagnosed with brain tumors when she was 5, UK took care of her until they couldn't do anything else and then they got her a place at St. Judes in Memphis. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses and all the staff at UK Children's Hospital, my nephew and friend's daughter are doing great. Keep up the great work!!!

As a mother, I thank UK for all that they strive to do for the children in this area.
