Some families who live in a Frankfort neighborhood are out of their homes because of bed bugs. Several homes on Rosewood Drive in Frankfort are infested with the insects. The Public Housing Authority, which owns the homes, are trying to exterminate the bugs, but not everyone is happy with how they're doing it.
Dene Jackson says her daughter lost nearly all her belongings due to a bed bug infestation at her housing unit.
"They went into my daughter's home and they took everything she owns, " says Jackson. "I mean they took their food out of the refrigerator, frozen food, all of my grandbaby's clothes, her toys. "
The Housing Authority of Frankfort is spraying several of its homes for bed bugs, leaving people who live there out for at least 72 hours. The executive director says an infestation can get so severe that removing all items are necessary.
"We have to replace the stoves, refrigerators," says Carole Anthony, the Housing Authority of Frankfort Executive Director. "We have to take the base boards out, and so we pretty much have to have the apartments cleaned out because if that bad, they're hiding in anything that's there."
The housing authority says residents were given a chance to remove items and will be responsible for spraying and clean up, an estimated $500 to $600.
But Jackson says that's just not fair.
"This is low income housing, how are they suppose to pay," asks Jackson.
The housing authority says it will make payment plans available.

I live in Public Housing in Frankfort. There has been a bedbug issue. They have been spraying every month. The Housing Authority does not charge for spraying. The cost is for removing any items and clean up. The reality is that the Housing Authority does not have infinite resources. They have to charge for removing items and cleaning up spaces. They have down a marvelous job in working to resolve this issue. They have educated all residents on how you can be infected. They have never suggested that bedbugs are caused by being unclean. However, there are things that can increase your risk. They were very honest about what their options were and all residents should be aware what will have to be done in the case their residences are infected. On a personal note...I have never been infected and I have taken personal responsibility by taking steps that would decrease my risk. It is necessary for all people involved to take personal responsibility and not lay all the blame on HAOF.
i wanna report,i just move to this house and.and my all body is so bad, because of the bugs they take my blood,i have skars in my all body...and the owner went to brasil..she dont care about me..help please
I am disabled and live in handicapped housing, not by choice, but by need. I was mortified when the Health Dept. came to my door to ask if I have bed bugs. I have checked everywhere and can't find even a spider, but have taken action to keep from getting them. Not all people that live in low income housing are dirty. You narrow-minded idiots that are running everyone down because of some of the people. I worked for thirty years with spina bifida. I am now paralized and unable to work. Look what my government has done for me! My only option is the bug infested nasty areas because I am under the age limit of 55 to live in some of the nicer facilities. Get a grip people!
