Some families who live in a Frankfort neighborhood are out of their homes because of bed bugs. Several homes on Rosewood Drive in Frankfort are infested with the insects. The Public Housing Authority, which owns the homes, are trying to exterminate the bugs, but not everyone is happy with how they're doing it.

Dene Jackson says her daughter lost nearly all her belongings due to a bed bug infestation at her housing unit.

"They went into my daughter's home and they took everything she owns, " says Jackson. "I mean they took their food out of the refrigerator, frozen food, all of my grandbaby's clothes, her toys. "

The Housing Authority of Frankfort is spraying several of its homes for bed bugs, leaving people who live there out for at least 72 hours. The executive director says an infestation can get so severe that removing all items are necessary.

"We have to replace the stoves, refrigerators," says Carole Anthony, the Housing Authority of Frankfort Executive Director. "We have to take the base boards out, and so we pretty much have to have the apartments cleaned out because if that bad, they're hiding in anything that's there."

The housing authority says residents were given a chance to remove items and will be responsible for spraying and clean up, an estimated $500 to $600.

But Jackson says that's just not fair.

"This is low income housing, how are they suppose to pay," asks Jackson.

The housing authority says it will make payment plans available.

I am disabled and live in handicapped housing, not by choice, but by need. I was mortified when the Health Dept. came to my door to ask if I have bed bugs. I have checked everywhere and can't find even a spider, but have taken action to keep from getting them. Not all people that live in low income housing are dirty. You narrow-minded idiots that are running everyone down because of some of the people. I worked for thirty years with spina bifida. I am now paralized and unable to work. Look what my government has done for me! My only option is the bug infested nasty areas because I am under the age limit of 55 to live in some of the nicer facilities. Get a grip people!

Nothing wrong with needing a little help and assistance in your life. The shame comes in not taking the help and getting yourself in a better place in time. It should be a regulation that if you are in public housing you are subject to and receive by monthly visits from the housing authorities to make sure you are keeping your home clean an that means to keeping your dishes washed, beds changed, children clean, dishes done, and your refrigerator and stove spotless. This will help keep any type of "Bug" infestation down to a minimum. It is a fact that there will always be people in need but it doesn't always have to remain a fact that these people are allowed to remain nasty. If they are inspected by monthly it would be less expense to tax payers as if the party isn't holding up their end of the bargin they can be kicked out of the public housing to keep things like this from happening. It would cost less in the long run!
