Sentencing For Man Who Attacked And Robbed Couple

A man convicted of attacking and robbing a Scott County couple learned Monday morning how long he'll spend behind bars.

The jury recommended a 30-year sentence for Stanley Stander when it convicted him in June, but a judge decided to give him even more time in jail.

Stander will serve 30 years in Scott County, but only after he serves seven years in Grant County for other charges connected to the case.

Stander broke into Ralph and Mattie Michaels' home in Georgetown last year, beat the couple then stole their car. He crashed in Grant County.

Mattie spent several weeks recovering in the hospital.

Also in Court on Monday, Stander's attorney filed several motions, but they were denied.

HE ADMITTED HE DID IT!!!! He even said he was on drugs and drinking when he did it (good excuse, right, druggies?) How in the world can you possibly defend or excuse laying one hand on people of that age? What a coward and what pathetic people who will stand up and defend one of their fellow drunk crackheads or make HIM the victim in any way. Insane? Senile? I don't think they were either but I know I'd rather be both than just plain stupid.

Do the crime, do the time. Quit whining about how he didn't do it (he was convicted, so as far as the legal system is concerned he DID do it) and let him suffer the consequences of the actions he took. I do agree with Ross that sentencing guidelines are very weird, because you can beat someone and get 30 years, but kill them and be back on the street in 8 years off a 12 year sentence. And sex crimes get you life in prison, it seems our priorities are way misplaced when it comes to how we sentence people in our legal system. I do not think this guy deserves 30 years, I think 15-20 would suffice considering no one died in this situation. However, I don't think murderers should ever get out of prison again.

Wow another case of some one defending the Guilty? What is wrong with Eastern Kentucky. At least the Jury has common sense. I don't care how long you have known some one. People who knew Ted Bundy never thought he would kill 50 women either. When are people going to realize that there is no certain way a criminal acts or looks. If criminals looked and acted a certain way then we would have a lot less crime because they could be profiled and stopped long before a crime is committed. I am tired of hearing he or she was such a nice person. It's all an act to cover up deviant, criminal desires by miscreants. I worked in Correctional Facilities for many years and some of the most deviant people carried bibles and attneded chapel on the weekends. They found Jesus in Prison but when they get out they go back to molesting children, selling drugs, murdering folks, or what ever it was they were sent to jail for in the first place. You people only knew the facade the criminal projected.

I DON'T KNOW ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. BUT OVER THE YEARS I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT ANYONE IS CABLE OF ANYTHING AT SOME POINT IN TIME. IF HE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THESE ELDERLY PEOPLE, THEN HE IS GETTING EVERYTHING HE DESERVES. JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU KNOW A PERSON, DOES NOT MEAN YOU KNOW WHAT IS IN THEIR MIND. JUST REMEMBER THAT.

I have a question. 30 years seems like a warranted sentence to me. However, I don't understand sentencing. You can kill someone and get as little as 10 years or so. Rape someone and get life. Beat up two eldery people and get 30 years. I don't understand this at all?
