A memorial for six-year-old Wesley Mullins was held Monday night, one year since when he was killed in Bourbon County.

Wesley Mullins' body was discovered in his grandfather's garage, in the evening hours of August, 4, 2007 after he had been missing for several hours.

"It's still hard, even a year later. It affected all of us in this community," said Paris Police Chief Tim Gray.

More than 100 people attended the memorial service, many who never even met Wesley.

"Why did we come? To honor Wesley" said Debbie Johnson.

"This touched us, too. It's like he became a part of us and our family," Cayla Johnson said.

Since the crime, that garage has been torn down to make way for a center for abused children, named in Wesley's honor.

Monday night's service was held at the site of the soon-to-be built Wesley's Place.

Meanwhile, the man police arrested for the crime is due back in court next week.

Lewis "Buck" Ballard has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

He will go on trial for the murder of Wesley Mullins in October.

My heart goes out to this precious young boy's family. I hope the killer never sees the light of day again. My prayers to Wesley's family. May God keep you in his care.
