The case against a Lexington woman, accused of abandoning her newborn on the front porch of a home, has been continued.

Ashlee Stephens is charged with abandonment of a minor.

She was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning. Her attorneys showed up, but Stephens was not there.

Police say the 23-year-old left her day-old baby in a laundry basket in front of a home on Lincoln Avenue. Stephens has pleaded not guilty.

Did she not show up in court? Where is the baby in all of this, does she have custody or does the state have him? This is just such an odd case.

This is a sad story. I dont know how anyone could ever leave there child just sitting on someones's door step. I know that its had to have a baby at a young age, but you know there are pelenty of people out there that would be glad to help. There are also orginizations, adoption agencies and hospitals that will help or find the child a place. I would love to have another chid.
