Bed Bugs Infest Another Frankfort Home

At least one other Frankfort family is being forced out of their home because of bed bugs, and experts are expressing concern across the state. A total of 17 homes have now been hit with the bed bug infestation under the Housing Authority of Frankfort.

Katherine Cane lives in that neighborhood and says she hasn't had bed bugs in her home yet. But several of her neighbors have in the last year, including a next door neighbor who was forced to evacuate for treatment.

The fear of getting bed bugs herself is now keeping Cane and other neighbors on the lookout.

However, the problems don't end in this Frankfort community. Bed bug experts say the problem is growing across the state and the world, from college dorm rooms to upscale hotels.

Bed Bug specialists from the University of Kentucky say they are heavily researching the issue to see how to curb the problem.

UK bed bug researchers say bed bugs aren't just a social issue but a problem that can occur any time people come together. Several housing associations around the state are now meeting to address the growing problems of bed bugs.

this comment is to SCOTT. I don't know WHERE you got your info about people who have bed bugs are sick and dirty but you CAN"T be further from the truth. A bed bug doesn't discriminate. It gets who it gets and people don't have to be dirty to get them.

There is a new product out called packtite that removes bed bugs from luggage using only heat. Could be an answer to how to stop the spread of these bugs

Last week, i saw the report on the infestation of bed bugs in my neighborhood. Mentioned was a woman who lost all of her belongings and was forced out of her home. The way i see it is: We live here b/c we are LOW INCOME. B/c we have faced trageties and/or had problems in working our way up. I am a 22 year old single mother of a 4 year old who has been homeless for approx 2 years(i have waited on this apartment sence november) I'm afraid that my son and i will loose our new home and new belongings to a bug infestation, which should be taken care of my the housing authority, not me. I dont have the money for a "payment plan" to get rid of these things. I live in an apartment where i pay my bills with my child support. Im currently enrolled into college and looking for a job that will fit my scedule while i still will aford chilcare. Hopefully i will not have to sacrifice what little money i have left and what little things i have accumulated. I am truely scared for that.
