Beshear Japan Trip Cost Taxpayers Almost $86,000

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Records show Gov. Steve Beshear and members of his administration spent almost $86,000 during an economic trip to Japan this summer.

Although the expenses came at a time of state budget cuts, Beshear spokesman Jay Blanton says it was a good investment.

Blanton says Kentuckians expect the governor to be aggressive about recruiting investments that result in creating jobs.

Records obtained by The (Frankfort) State Journal through an open records request show some of the expenses include $13,500 for hotel rooms, $12,000 in airfare, $28,000 to hold a reception at a hotel in Tokyo and $9,000 for rented vehicles.

I was and am still disappointed to see Toyota here. I'd much rather see Ford stay strong in KY. They were here decades before and yuppie liberals turned their backs on them. Sure Ford's quality suffered in the past, but now they surpass Toyota according to JD Power's and Associates. Yes, Toyota created jobs, but how many American companies suffered layoffs? Most likely more than gained. Plus, the last time I checked Toyota was still based in Japan not the USA. Therefore, profits go to Japan, not an American company. I would be ashamed to drive a product by a company based in Japan that did unthinkable acts to N Korea, the US and others. Shame on you. Beshear is a flake.

KY sure got this one wrong, this Beshear is a piece of liberal junk. He reminds me of a John Edwards or Bill Clinton, FAKE. To hear his voice literally makes me irrate. Thank goodness he is a one termer. I'd imagine a state leader shouting a misleading budget shortfall would have been a bit more conservative. Oh, that's right, he's a liberal. Mislead, Waste, Spend, Cheat.

The governor went to Japan to recruit new jobs for Kentucky. What the heck is the problem with that? True, he may have been able to cut corners. But he was also taking people with him. And airline flight isn't cheap these days.

Since this trip was all about bringing jobs to the state lets see the jobs!!! Lets see some signed agreements and hear some of the company names he is trying to recruit. If these can't be produced he and his staff should be forced to refund the taxpayers of this state.

I am all for bringing new jobs to the state-God knows we need them, but I just wonder how much they would have spent if THEY were paying for it, and not the taxpayers. Every dime of their "expenses" needs to be printed in the newspapers, so the whole state can see just what is really going on. I would guarantee that if they had to pay for it, the trip wouldn't have costed half as much.

Next time, just make him walk to Japan. It might take a little longer but I doubt he'll get wet since he thinks he can walk on water.

How many people did he bring to Japan? And for how long?
