Whitley County Man Admits To Role In Robbery

Josh Emerson Surgener does not deny his role in the Sunday night robbery of Fast Trax in southern Whitley County.

“And I drove and dropped him off, and then we left,” Surgener says from the Whitley County Detention Center in Williamsburg.

Surgener claims that Douglas Boyd Malone was the robbery ringleader. Police say Surgener, Boyd, and Todd Evan Bryant were all to blame, and all are charged with first degree robbery.

“Pretty much when a guy is at the end of his rope, there's no telling what he will do,” said Surgener of the illegal act he’s accused of doing.

The store clerk says the man who actually held up the store was wearing a red bandanna and pointed at gun at her face, then fired two shots when she didn't immediately comply with his demands. The man left and a short time later, Surgener says police caught up with them in Tennessee.

Surgener says he’s not surprised at the quick police response that led to his arrest.

He also says he knew he was going to get caught and that being in jail is not so bad.

“I have no place to live. You know, I figure as long as I'm here. I have a place to live, something to eat,” said Surgener.

Police say all three are charged with first degree robbery because a weapon was involved. While happy to have a roof over his head, he realizes he's in serious trouble.

“I just kind of went along with it. Which is kind of stupid now that I think about it,” said Surgener.

Fast Trax employees say they were able to recover the stolen money.

I dont think anyone should be locked up like an animal. I think the Surgerner man is the leader. I have known Malone, all of my life and he is good guy until u get on his bad side. He just made a bad decision in going along with surgerner.I think that what they done was wrong but it was just a very bad decision. John if u knew him all ur life then u would know that he is a good guy but he has problems. Honest MAN u probably dont know anything about Doug unless he took ur women or handled u on his own. that is what i have to say about malone he is not a bad guy he just has problems

I know the Malone guy too! It is about time he goes to jail. Hopefully he will be there a long time. He is the definition of the type of person who needs to be behind a cage like an animal.

why does the news insist on giving criminals their spotlight in the news.he got attention even if it was for bad actions.now he thinks he is tough stuff he was on the news.i deal with these criminals dont give them glory.would you give them glory if it were your business or home they broke into?it hurts the people whose businesses and homes are easy targets because of work schedules, not able to afford alarm systems, single women with or without kids, elderly people etc channel 27 is the best, the only thing i watch and read.please please dont give these guys the glory.i hear their comments, please instead do a series on ways people and communities can help protect themselves from this injustice.i know there is no 100% preventage but give us something to help ease our fears we will not be the next victim.forget for a minute about news headlines giving glory to the next sick person out there thinking hey i want to be on the news.instead think of your honest viewers and your families

I guessed why he wanted to go to jail before they played the tape.. hes a homeless, worthless hillbilly! He cannot talk from the interview we all saw and needs to be removed from jail and sent elsewhere. Why should we the taxpayers pay for his "motel" I mean jail cell for him to have a bed, a shower and food to eat? He even admitted that, that stupid inbred!

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? He's happy to have a "place to live and something to eat". Hmmm...how long does he plan on staying at the "Whitley County Motel"? And if he gets out, what will he do to go back?
