Cool Weather Brings Out More Brown Recluse Spiders

Brown recluse spiders are one of the prime spiders of Kentucky. During the summer months, the spiders can become fairly abundant in numbers.

Changes in the weather can dramatically influence where these spiders decide to live. Brown recluses usually reside in warm, dark, and dry locations. With the recent cool weather, these spiders may migrate into nearby houses.

Brown recluse spiders can be identified by their delicate legs, and more importantly, the fiddle shape on their back. They are normally not aggressive towards humans unless threatened.

The spiders can enter in through cracks and pipes. Weather-proofing windows and doors may help keep brown recluses out.

I researched the brown recluse and the bad part is that they will lay eggs next to the bone and the babies will feed off the bone, besides the skin around it dying. I saw a show on TV where they lanced the place that was dead and there were thousands of babies came out of it. So if you think you have been bitten get to hospital right away.

Yes, they are poisonous. Not in that they usually end in death, but the flesh around it can die, leaving one scarred for life. If you know you have been bitten by a spider, take the spider in a jar with you to the hospital so it can be identified properly. Brown recluse patients generally require antibiotics by iv, as quickly as possible.
