Apartment Fire Forces Evacuations

Several people were forced outside on Thursday morning after an apartment building fire.

The fire broke out at around 10:30 at Lexington's Fayette Crossing Apartments on East Reynolds road.

People reported seeing smoke coming from a basement apartment. Fire crews rushed in to make sure no one was inside that unit. They say it was vacant.

Firefighters say the fire started on a mattress in that apartment and say the fire is suspicious because no one lived there.

That apartment suffered some damage, but surrounding apartments were not damaged, but will likely be a little smokey.

Fire investigators are now looking into the cause.
