Texas researchers are working together with Hazard's Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center, updating technology for the small and rural agencies that make up nearly 90 percent of the nations law enforcement agencies.

Officials say small and rural agencies don't have enough officers and don't receive as much funding from the government as larger agencies
The Texas officers say together they're finding ways to get law enforcement agencies updated with technology they can afford.

Joe Peters, Director for Board of Research and Technology Center in Austin Texas says, “A number of the smaller and rural agencies particularly in some cases don't even know what technology might exist out there to solve a particular problem or elevate a particular problem.”

Officials believe better technology means better communication for rural agencies, in turn helping officers with their job.
