It's a sometimes forgotten gem when it comes to artwork in the mountains, and it's right on our back doorstep.
Dozens of people gathered at the Hampton Inn in Hazard Tuesday night to talk about the Appalachian Artisan Center in nearby Hindman. Members of the center were on hand to help spread awareness of the facilities and to talk about the regional importance of arts & crafts. Officials say the center brings in people from all over the country to practice their skill.
"What I’ve noticed about the area is that there is a very positive artist community that I’m looking forward to being part of," says Kevin Bloomenkamp, an artist from St. Louis.
Renovation of the Cody building in Hindman, a project to help the center expand, is scheduled to start later this year.
