Future Of UK Sports May Face Drastic Changes

The future of sports at UK might soon look a lot different.

On Thursday morning, the board of the Lexington Center Corporation voted unanimously to commission a study that will look into the possibility of building a brand new basketball arena, renovating Commonwealth Stadium and building a brand new UK baseball stadium.

If the plan becomes a reality, the project would cost between 300 and 400 million dollars.

However, it wouldn't end up costing taxpayers a dime.

IMG College will pay for the initial 6 month study to see if these ideas are even possible in Lexington. In addition, after the study, if the city agrees to the project, IMG will pay for construction costs.

They say they'll offset the costs of the building and renovation with corporate sponsorships..

The feasibility study starts immediately.

As for the future of Rupp Arena, if the plan is adopted, it would be used as a performing arts center and more convention room will be given to Lexington Center.

I think UK should do a Study on why their employees did not get a pay increase this year and are being told no money next year for salaries, Yet the work load is getting bigger. Maybe Mr Todd can answer this

What a waste of money...there are dorm room without A/C and they want to spend 30million for new fields that are as nice as any in the SEC.....what a waste! Sorta like Lee Todd getting a nice bonus for doing HIS JOB!!

Commonwealth Stadium is fine. Rupp Arena is fine. Don't need to spend more taxpayers money, nor "revenue" from sporting events for UK. How about a decrease in tuition? Colleges and universities are supposed to be about education, not playing sports. Sports is just a nice after thought.

I guess us season ticket holders better be looking for ways to finance our ticket books, because it looks like prices are getting ready to go THROUGH the roof!
