The owner of a great dane that died after being found nearly starved to death is sentenced for animal cruelty.

Princess weighed only half her recommended weight when she was rescued from a Knox County home. She spent months in recovery but died in June of cancer.

Virgil Whitaker has pleaded guilty to second-degree animal cruelty charges and will serve 90 days of home incarceration and 12 months probation.

Whitaker was charged with animal cruelty about a month before Romeo's Law took effect, which makes the crime a felony in Kentucky.
