Local University Officials Speak Out on Lowering Drinking Age

It's an ongoing debate at college campuses all over the nation, if the drinking age should be lowered from 21 years old to 18.

More than 100 college presidents across the U.S. have joined the Amethyst Initiative, asking lawmakers to lower the age to help combat binge drinking. However, officials at one university in the mountains say it's about changing perception.

“I think the compelling thing we have to look at is, what's driving the behavior in the first place?” says Dr. Wayne Andrews, President of Morehead State University.

“Most students perceive that there is a lot more drinking and alcohol use on campus and in various groups than there actually is,” says Madonna Weathers, Vice President of Student Life at Morehead.
