It’s been seven years in the making that led dozens to gather for a groundbreaking ceremony recognizing World War II veterans.

At least 434 veteran names from Jenkins, Dunham and Burdine will be on the monument in Jenkins. Mary Mullins says World War II veterans are part of the reason America is so great. “To me, World War II veterans were the greatest generation. We have great veterans that were in other conflicts but nothing like World War II.”

Mullins says money for the monument came from the coal severance tax. The 50 thousand dollar project is expected to be finished by the spring of 2009.
