Police say 28 year old Samuel C. Patrick was found on Stamper Branch Road near Soft Shell around four Sunday morning.

The discovery came after several people in that area called the power company. Police say a technician with American Electric Power went to the area after receiving several complaints and that's when police were notified.

Police say at the top of the utility pole, Patrick cut a ground wire which caused the electrocution.
Neighbors say they knew something was wrong late Sunday night when smoke started coming out of their television sets.

Clerance Stamper, who lives nearby says, “I was in the bed last night when the TV blew up there in the bedroom. I didn't have it on or anything. I jumped up and smoke went barreling out of it.”

Tom Mullet, who lives down the street says, “The TV started going on and off, that started it then it sounded like gun. The transformer evidently blew.”

Neighbors say the surge destroyed electronics and some appliances. Stamper says, “Well all of them in here was. All of us lost TV’s the woman up here above me up, here at the head of the holler, she lost her air conditioner.”

Police say Patrick used a tree stand climber to get to the top of the utility pole.

Mullett says he has known Patrick for about five years and can't believe his friend died this way. “It was a total surprise; yeah it was he was a good kid man.”

Now detectives are trying to figure out why. Police have not yet said what Patrick was doing on the utility pole.

Now, listen here, to all of you that have a negative opinion about my brother you can either keep it to yourself or you may come out from behind your pen name and say it to my face I live in the city of Hindman and am not hard to find just ask anybody where Sam patrick's sister lives, please come on by, for all the good commets about my brother Thank you, my family has appreciated all the support we have recieved form all his friends, I can't tell you how much it has meant to us, and for his cane Randy T. it has taken 1 year to recover from almost being crushed to death by a piece of angle at work but he would have been back to work that next week, and you know what when someone hands all your money or easy oppurtunities to you life's simple isn't it but for the rest of you you have to scrap for every dime and penny we buy our groceries with it doesn't come so easy.I really don't know who you people think you are to be able to talk bad about my brother wrong or not,DON'T DO IT!!!!!

I agree with you "mercy". Hopefully they catch the others that was with him, all the evidence points that he was not alone. Hopefully they can't sleep at night. Leaving Sam up on that pole was a horrible thing for someone to do. May god rest Sam's soul, he was such a dear friend.

Lets pray that god shows more mercy to all those who judge and cast stones..Freedom of speech does not mean we have to use it hurt each other and it specificaly states in the bible just lest not ye be judged but by that manner ye shall be judged also.. Lets all try to remember that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and we need to examine our own lives not others that is for God to do....

Sam was a very dear friend of mine...As for you Randy T. who was hurt and as far as I am concerned if this is the Judge Randy T. you just need to go back to jail because you say what he was doing was wrong when no one really knows what he was doing on the pole and no one ever will, but I guess its ok for you to go and sell a vote or two and break the law.As for all of you other stupid people on here talking down on my friend you all really do need a reality check because a man just lost his life so have a heart. He was a good man and a great friend he has been there for me a lot of times. Sambo I will truly miss you and you will always be in my heart. I love you Sam I am

Sam was a very dear friend to my family. He will be very deeply missed. We are having to deal with not seeing his smiling face on a daily basis any more...That is hard enough without a heartless coward saying all of the negative things about him...You didn't know him or you would not have said those things...I just want you to remember that what goes around comes around...I hope I hear about it when it comes back to you...RIP Sam...I Love & Miss You, Michelle everyone else PLEASE continue to Pray for Sam's family & friends....Thanks

people do care why he was there. how can a man who used a cane climb a pole????? makes you wonder doesn't it. just because other have stole copper doesn't make it an okay thing. What do you think those people that lost their TVs and appliances think about this, bet money AEP is not going to fix the items destroyed for them.
