Wednesday marks the two-year anniversary of a tragedy that gripped much of the state for months.
The crash of Comair Flight 5191 took 49 lives after the pilots guided the plane down the wrong runway at Blue Grass Airport.
To remember the lives lost that Sunday morning, Governor Beshear has ordered flags at all state office buildings lowered to half-staff.
Flags will stay lowered until sunset Wednesday night.
Hundreds gathered at the Mitchell Fine Arts Center at Transylvania University for a public memorial service. Family members were given an opportunity to reflect on their loved ones lost in the crash.
The two-year anniversary comes as the FAA has been criticized for moving too slowly to make safety changes in light of the tragic crash.
