A man, thought to be a serial bank robber, is now in police custody.

Police have been looking for Joseph Young since he was identified as the so-called "Plaid Shirt Robber" last week.

We're told he was caught during a traffic stop near Springfield, Missouri, his home state.

Police across the country have been hunting for Joseph Paul Young for months, saying he may be responsible for as many as 40 bank robberies, maybe even more, including at least 8 in Kentucky, one of those in Lexington.

There were times earlier this month when police say they were closing in on Young but were unable to catch him.

But Thursday, television stations in Missouri are reporting the "Plaid Shirt Robber" was spotted by police driving 40 miles an hour down the interstate, prompting several police agencies to move in and place him under arrest.

Lexington police say he struck the PNC bank on Harrodsburg Road this past New Year's Eve and Young was last seen lurking outside of a bank in West Virginia.

This isn't the first time Young's been caught by police for robbing banks. He's already spent five years in jail for prior bank robbery conviction.
