He admitted being guilty of a terrible crime, but the family of a man beaten nearly to death says he should have received his punishment in a courtroom, not at the hands of inmates in jail.

Terry Fisher remains unresponsive in the hospital after police say he was attacked by 10 inmates. He
plead guilty to sexually abusing a child earlier this month.

Jail officials say when they found 44-year old Fisher lying in his cell they thought he'd had a seizure. Then they realized he'd been beaten. His family says even though he pleaded guilty, he didn't deserve this punishment.

"Just to see him... The way he is now... Tears me to pieces," explains Fisher's older sister, Marilyn Johnson.
She even though he pleaded guilty to unlawful transaction with a minor and third degree sexual abuse charges, her younger brother should have been dealt with in court.

"It shouldn't have happened. He didn't deserve this."

"I don't think inmates should be allowed to decide who they whip and who they don't. Even if they're behind bars--- they still have rights," explained Tina Green, Fisher's niece.

She describes her uncle is a good, humble person who shouldn't have been charged with those crimes.

"I'd stake my life he didn't do it. I trust him completely with my children."

Green says right now Fisher is unresponsive and still bleeding from his brain. She says doctors at Cabell Hospital say he ma never make a full recovery.

"We pretty much know we'll never get our Terry back.... The jail time they would have given him is nothing compared to this. They've given him a life sentence. They've given us one. For the rest of our lives we'll have to take care of him."

Jailer Roger Webb says Fisher was separated from the general jail population and placed in an area with inmates charged with similar crimes.

Three of the ten inmates charged with beating Fisher have not been arrested because they were released from the Floyd County Detention Center before charges were filed.

I think that most of these people saying that he didnt deserve to be beaten would be singing a different tune if this scum molested their child.

I think they should beat this guy with a whip while he's unconcscious. There's no excuse to do a child this way. None. Zero. I actually think they should handcuff him to the bed and beat him whiles he's in the hospital. Just my opinion, of course.

What about the life sentence that the child has to serve??? That innocent child will have to live with this for the rest of it's life, so why shouldn't the one who admits to it have a life sentence too. If it was my child, he wouldn't have made it to jail, I would have. People like that are the lowest of low and deserve what they get. Everything you do comes back to you, so he got his.

GOOD FOR HIM!!! He didn't deserve this punishment??? Good, humble person??? WHATEVER... What about that little child that this sicko sexually abused. Terry Fisher gave this child and her/his family a life sentence too. Do you really think they will EVER forget that abuse??? NO WAY! I just hope he recovers enough to know why he got this good whipping!!! If you ask me, I'd say take some time off each of those 10 inmates sentence for defending this child's honor! WAY TO GO GUYS!!!

I feel sorry for the ten inmates that were locked up with this scum. I hope they all get a medal and get to take some long hot showers. He's filth. He admitted to molesting a child. How can anyone feel sorry for him? I'm sure his family loves him, but they have to understand that the man committed an act so horrible that other CRIMINALS were outraged.

ANYONE WHO RAPES, ABUSE, KIDS AND WOMEN....THEN GO TO JAIL OR PRISON, THE INMATES CONSIDER THEM THE LOW OF LOW. THEY ARE MARKED. YOU WOULD'NT BELIEVE IT BUT INMATES DO HAVE A CODE OF "STANDARDS" ON THE CRIMES THEY COMMIT. ENYONE WHO WOULD DO THIS TO A CHILD OR WOMEN DESEVE MUCH WORSE.....SO I " DO NOT " FEEL SORRY FOR THIS PERSON.

Posted by: BILL Location: ASHLAND on Sep 2, 2008 at 03:59 AM
IT APPEARS THAT HE GOT WHAT WAS COMING TO HIM. YES, THATS WHAT THEY ARE CALLED AND THAT IS INMATES. THAT IS FOR A REASON. THEY COMMITTED A CRIME OF SOME SORT. BUT THERE COMES ALONG A CHILD MOLESTER WHO OTHER INMATES WILL NOT TOLERATE. IT GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT JUST BECAUSE THERE MAY BE 10 DRUG ADDICTS DONT MEAN THEY DONT HAVE A CONCIOUS OR A HEART WHEN IT COMES TO A CHILD. BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT IF YOU ARE ACCUSSED OR CONVICTED OF A SICKENING CRIME AS SUCH YOU WILL GET A JAIL HOUSE ADJUSTING. ITS THE INMATE JUDICIAL SYSTEM INSIDE THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. ALL I CAN SAY IS DONT COMMIT A SICK CRIME SUCH AS CHILD MOLESTING OR A SEX CRIME OF SOME SORT. THEN THERE WONT BE A PROBLEM. IN THE COURTS ANYMORE THE CONVICTED DOES NOT GET ANY PUNISHMENT AT ALL. WELL THIS IS ONE WAY THAT IT IS GIVEN TO THEM. HE ADMITTED TO IT. HOW CAN SOMEONE SAY THEY TRUST HIM WITH THERE KIDS AFTER HE ADMITTED IT. ABSOLUTELY SICK. THIS CHILD HAS TO LIVE WITH IT FOR THE REST OF ITS LIFE. LIFE LONG SCAR. HOW SAD....

I have been sexually molested, and I feel that any person that does this to children should die for it. People do not realize what it causes for the vicitms. The sister says she trust him with her kids well she better be ready to handle the trama her kids will go through when he does it to them. I do not feel sorry for him at all and I think he deserved what he got.

Don't put the blame on the jailer or his deputies, they do their job, they can't stay in the cells with the inmates all the time, if this man was harrassed for 3 days, he could have told the deputies, they are in the cells several times a day to check on the inmatesto serve trays, give out medicine, mail and etc. it was wrong for the inmates doing what they did but they are to blame not the employees.don't criticize until you really know what you are talking about maybe you need to work at a detention center before you are so eager to place blame

The solution to the problem of prisoners getting beat up in jail is...don't commit crimes and stay out of jail!! Yes, we have all sinned but we also reap what we sow. God does forgive us of our sins (if we are truly repentant) but we must still pay the consequences that come along with the sins we commit. If you touch the hot burner on the stove you will get burned, it's not that hard to understand. Of course, this man and his family and his victims all need prayer, but when you do negative things, you're not going to reap positive reactions, you're going to reap negative reactions. That might not make it right but it is a fact of life and I would think that by the time a person is an adult that is something they would have already learned.

I myself have been sexually molested. I feel for his family because no matter what he does family is going to stand by him. Because that is what families do. But I think he deserved what he got, because no matter what you do or how you try that is something you will never forget. And you will never get over it. His sister said "he's not guilty," bull. You don't plead guilty to something a sick as a crime like this uless you are guilty and know you better take what you get offered and be glad you got it.I pray for the child he molested, she or he is the one who really needs it.

Even though this guy, who pleaded guilty to molesting a child, is scum...the sad part is us taxpayers are going to have to pay for the care of this inmate now because a crime was committed inside the jail. It could've been prevented. When the Floyd Co Jailer is crying that he doesn't have enough money to run the jail a year from now, maybe the voters will wise up and vote him out, because this was totally his fault and could've been avoided. Now, not only do the taxpayers have to pay for his care, but they'll lose in an eventual civil lawsuit for not providing his protection (which they are sworn to do) and even more millions of our taxpayer dollars will be doled out to this man's family. Like a previous poster said, two wrongs don't make a right. And to those of you who claim to be Christians, remember God loves this man just as much as he loves you. We have ALL sinned, and we ALL have the opportunity to find Christ. This man had that taken away now (if he don't wake up). PRAY!

Well to all you who say he shouldn't be done that why Stop and ask yourself this, What if it was my kid(s) that he done this too? Lets say it was your child and this same thing happened you would be sitting at home going thats what you get. So the kid(s) that he done this too is hurt so he got what he needed. Sorry to the family thats what they all say HE/SHE WOULDN'T DO THAT!!!! Well wake up and understand HE as in Terry said his self I DID IT. So I have to say now we don't have to worry about him do any KID(S) this way again.

I think the Floyd County Jailer Roger Webb and his employees should be held 100% responsible for this attack. No matter what anyone has done they are suppose to be protected. They should also be kept from the other inmates when they even suspect that they are in danger of abuse by the other inmates. Shows how much the Floyd County jailer Webb notices what goes on in his jail.. If he were taking care of his job this would not have happened. And if this man dies Webb should be named in the suit as an accomplice to murder as well as to his assault.

I do feel for the family due to I have a family member who is in jail now. A person thinks that none of there family would do such a thing then it will smack you in the face. You always think you would be able to turn your back on a family member that would do such a thing but when it comes down to it all you can do is pray that God will see that that person gets the help they need. I do not condone what he did. But my heart does go out to his family. And you say for him to rot in hell, well in my opinion the inmates will be right there with him. Unless you have been in the shoes of his family you have no clue of the heartache they are feeling, not just because of this but because of the whole situation. My prayers are with you all. I am not a goody-2-shoe but I do believe in justice. AND THIS IS NOT IT. God have mercy.

His family says that they will never have their Terry back well guess what that childs mother WILL NEVER really have her child back because that sick SOB took something from it that will forever haunt it!!! THATS RIGHT FOREVER! He deserves to SUFFER FOREVER!! Just like that child has to do. He is a grown man and he knew better there are 2 many sleezy ADULTS out there he should have gotten his kicks from them and left that baby alone!! NO CHILD DESERVES THIS!! We should give those prisoners a GOLD METAL!! THANK GOD SOMEONE IS GETTING JUSTICE DONE!! I HOPE THEY DO THE REST LIKE THIS TOO!! I WILL GIVE MY TAX DOLLARS TO WATCH JUSTICE BE SERVED!

If he had the nreve to touch a child in an unwanted manner then I believe that those men did us a great service. I agree with the others he would be smart and stay away from children.

Hats off to these heros. Do any of them need donations for legal defense fund? The governor should pardon these great Kentuckians instead of the child molester Berry. Berry needs some of this justice.

Posted by: Sue on Aug 30, 2008 at 05:26 PM
Praise to the inmates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This scum of the earth got everything he deserved. That's one good thing about jail if you are in there for hurting a child you better hope and pray the inmates don't found out. One things for sure the justice system want take care of you at least the inmates will. He plaid GUILTY to the crimes, but yet the family talks about what a great guy he is. YEA RIGHT!! That he did not do this.. YEA RIGHT. Let's hope the precious child and their family get peace from this. We need inmates on the juries of these cases, especially of those that are killed.

Posted by: Lori Location: KY on Aug 30, 2008 at 05:21 PM
I agree you can't take the law into your own hands but I really don't feel any pity for this man or his family- he plead guilty to a crime that is sickening and the poor child will never be the same! How could the aunt say she would trust a man with her kids when he plead guilty- all I can say that she must be sick herself!

He won't be molesting anyone else!!!!! He got what he deserved.

Terry should have thought about jail before he molested the children. Two bad to sad Terry you are in charge of you. Do the crime do the time. Simple

The family shouldnt have to defend this man! The Law should be defending this man! Where in GODS name is the LAW OF FLOYD COUNTY KY, THE MORALS AND THE INTEGERTY THAT GOES WITH EACH TITLE? TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE IT RIGHT!

Well I Guess Now This man knows how it feels to be helpless. Just like the child that he sexually abused. Was this news story supposed to make me feel sorry for this man? The only people I feel sorry for is the child and the family. I also believe that he deserved every thing that he got, the person that did not deserve anything was the child. The comment that Fisher’s niece made “ I stake my life that he did not do it” do you feel healthy today? If he did not do it why would he plead guilty. If I was supposed to feel sorry for Mr. Fisher my bad, because I do not. May God Have Mercy ON His Soul.

I have sympathy for this family and the pain they feel. But he got what he, along with anyone else that abuses a child, should get. The child he hurt will live with this the rest of it's life. Why should a child molester have an easy life in prison.I truly am sorry for the pain this family is feeling but what do people that abuse kids think it will be in prison. I have always heard that you are targeted from the start. I wonder though if all the ones in the cell with him were in fact there for similar charges.....how can they "cast the first stone"?They are no better in my opinion.

Posted by: anon Location: ky on Aug 30, 2008 at 07:55 AM
He fully got what he deserved - family says no? - what about the child he sexually abused? Did she deserve that? Will she ever get over what he did to her? How long will it take for her to be able to sleep at night without nightmares of what he did to her??

Posted by: Debra Location: Lexington on Aug 30, 2008 at 07:53 AM
I don't understand why the inmates who were released from jail have not been arrested. If Mr. Fisher was guilty it is up to the courts to decide his sentence. Anyone responsible for this beating, even those employed at the jail, should face charges at least for facilitation to attempted murder.

As a mother of a child who has been molested all I can say is that the child he molested has a life sentenece as well. The family should consider the fact that since his punishment was handed out in by people that God will not be punishing him as he would of. I am sorry but to have pity on a someonewho hurts children is not in my blood. What goes around comes around.

Posted by: Kelly Location: Georgetown on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:57 PM
too bad for him. How do you think the victim(s) feel? He gave that person(s) a life sentence.I have always heard that they "deal" with those type of people in prison. You do the crime, you pay. The prisoners decided to be judge jury and convictioners.

Posted by: A Location: L on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Thats what happens when you commit a crime so horrible that even killers and rapists hate you and think your an animal. You get treated like a cur dog. Ask his family if that kid deserved its life ruined because he couldnt control his abnormal urges.

Posted by: AreYouKidding? Location: Lexington on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:12 PM
I have to say that although I have no pity for child molesters whatsoever, I have to agree with the family on this one. This man has certain inalienable rights in this country, and the right to a fair trial and protection while awaiting trial (and sentencing) are some of them. The jailer says he was placed in an area with people who committed "similar crimes"? How many child molesters are sitting in the Floyd Co jail??? I would imagine he was the only one, so he wasn't placed with people with similar crimes if that's the case. Did they put him in with violent offenders??? If so, any jailer with a bit of common sense knows that even the hardest of criminals hates a child molester and by putting him anywhere but separated from all prisoners was in effect putting his life in danger. And now the worst part is, if he lingers for 6 months at thousands of dollars a day in the hospital, the taxpayers are responsible for his care, just because the jail didn't use common sense. How sad.

Posted by: crystal Location: mt. sterling on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:07 PM
Sounds like he got some of what he had coming to him. His family says they will never get their Terry back....THAT CHILD WILL NEVER GET HIS/HER INNOCENCE BACK!!!!!!!!!

his sisster said " he didnt deserve this" what a joke...What about the poor innocent child he admitted to molesting, did he/she deserve being molested?? NO WAY!!! He got what he deserved! His family is a disgace for standing behind him after he sexually abused a young child...

Posted by: Abusers are NOT Victims on Aug 29, 2008 at 06:42 PM
He pleaded GUILTY. He ADMITTED he did it. So don't say he didn't do it. What about HIS VICTIMS? The life sentences of shame, guilt, heartache, fear he's given them? I find it hard to be sorry for someone who's STOLEN the youth, the innocence from CHILDREN.
