SOMERSET, KY -- A Pine Knot woman was arrested Friday after police found her baby locked in a running car by himself.

According to a Somerset Police Department news release a customer at the Wal-Mart in Somerset alerted police, who estimate the baby was left unattended for 30 minutes. He was not injured.

Police say the baby's mother, Joni Helton, 22, was found shortly, but her behavior indicated she might be on drugs, according to Somerset police. A search of the vehicle revealed Xanax pills.

Police charged Helton with endangering the welfare of a minor and drug possession. She was taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center. The baby was released into the care of a grandparent.
