Latest KY School Accountability Scores Released

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - New test scores show some Kentucky public
schools are still far from meeting their 2014 goal of reaching

Others, meanwhile, have met their goals.

The state Department of Education on Wednesday released scores
from the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System covering the
2007-2008 cycle.

Spokeswoman Lisa Gross says there are some reasons for educators
to be pleased.

Gross says more than 100 schools in different areas of the state have already met the proficiency goals.

Among other things, the tests show that Kentucky's public
elementary schools slightly increased their overall accountability
scores. Meanwhile, Kentucky high schools saw a slight drop.

This doesn't surprise me. Too much emphasis has been taken away fromt he basics and placed on other things. Teacher's are expected to do an additional two to three hours of paperwork almost daily which takes away from their preparation for instruction. Even with programs in place to prevent it there are still hundreds of kids that fall through the cracks every year. Even though research shows smaller classes is best for the teachers and the students there are consistantly 25 to 30 kids in every classroom. The state says it supports education but they keep cutting education funds which keeps class rooms big and teachers stressed.
