Police: Deadly Shooting Was Self-Defense

One man is dead, another behind bars after a violent home invasion Wednesday morning.

It happened at around 8:30 at the Glenneagles Apartments, on Lexington's Polo Club Boulevard.

Police say some would-be burglars knocked on a couple's door. When the residents answered the door, police say the people barged their way inside.

Police say one of the men who lived in the apartment was able to get his gun and both groups fired shots at each other.

In the end, one of the burglars was shot and killed. The coroner identified him as 28-year-old Brian D. Simpson. He does have an arrest record for burglary and robbery.

Police arrested 24-year-old Reginald L. Jones. He faces several charges including burglary and being a felon in possession of a handgun.

Police are still trying to identify a female suspect.

The residents of the apartment have not been charged.

Police say they have interviewed several witnesses in the neighborhood and still have more people they want to question. They're not saying what sparked this incident.

Police say the shooting was self-defense, but if crime is know in this area, how can you not do a thorough ivestigation. This is not an open and shut case. Both parties needs to be investigated. Its not just one side to a story and innocence doesnt prevail forever.

Hey Ms. Anonymous, I am well aware of how the Section 8 program works, as I said I have worked with Section 8 residents for more than 2 decades. There are good and there are bad and yes, if that were me I'd probably blow his a-- away as well. I hope I never have to have Section 8 as I enjoy working so that you can enjoy Section 8 and I also agree with Mel. The individuals who receive welfare, food stamps & Sec. 8 should be tested for drugs just as we do to be employed and yesthe invasion was drug motivated. Just watch Mr. Sniffas's video on YouTube......

Flash Guess what I don't have to think that I'm entitled to live in a brand new neighborhood while on Section 8, I do live in a brand new neighborhood on Section 8 whether you think I'm entitle or not. Do you think that you entitle to live elsewhere? I do pay taxes, when I shop, I pay taxes at the county clerks office, etc. It's possible that I may not pay higher taxes as you, but that's how it goes in America. As far as (read "EARN'), I am motivated, earning my way, in fact I'm 59 years old and I attend college. I haven't given up Flash and you never know at some point in your life you may need help. I have paid taxes on a home before and hope to be in that position again someday. I also pay rent on Section 8. I know people who have been on Section 8, and have purchased nice homes and moved on with their lives. Get educated about Section 8 because you don't know what you're talking about and stop hating.

WHY SUCH NEGIVITY? THE JUDGEMENTS THE HURTFUL THINGS THAT ARE BEING SAID ABOUT THE VICTIM'S AND THEIR FAMILIES BOTH PARTIES. YES THE MAN THAT LOST HIS LIFE WAS IN THE WRONG AND I'M PRETTY SURE THAT IF THE SHOE WAS ON THE OTHER FOOT HE WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY.BUT TO POST THE COMMENTS ABOUT HIS WIFE WAS SENSE LESS.DO YOU KNOW HOW THIS WOMAN FEELS. THEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE SECTION 8 PROGRAM. THE VICTIMS ARE ONSECTION 8.WHAT ABOUT THAT? EVEN THOUGH THE GOONS THAT WAS BEHIND THIS UNCALLED FOR INCIDENT WAS WRONG HOW COME THE VICTIM THAT SHOT AND KILLED A MAN IS AN CONVICTED FELON WASNT CHARGED WITH THE POSESSIONOF A FIREARM?????????? IS THE LAW GOING TO LOOK OVER THAT....

The managment of the apartments tried to do a little damage control with a meeting last year. They told us how they screen their clients. They told us that only the person on the lease was allowed to live there with relatives and the number of people per unit had limits. They also said the renters are not Sec 8, 9 or 10, just low income. They tried to make us feel better about what was the start of the crime yet to come to our neighborhood. I don't think they check or inforce much of this. If they do why then are there so many symbols on the crime blotter since they opened? Is it a mad plot by the LFUCG Crime Blotter Clerk to make the saints who live in the apartments look bad? Why are they allowed to loiter on the Market Garden Side of the complex when their is no loitering sign? Why are we paying the way for people to live in a nice apartment and we can't even walk down the street now and feel safe. Thanks for taking money out of my pocket when I have to sell my home to get out.
