It's that time of year when plants like ragweed are blooming and causing frustration for allergy sufferers. This year's allergy season might last a little longer than expected.

North Fork Valley Community Health Center Pharmacy Director Sherri Muha stays busy.

“This time of year allergies are worse, but this year it's a little worse than usual, the pollen count has been very high,” says Muha.

It is high because the warmer weather is making more plants bloom, especially ragweed.

“The ragweed is going to bloom even until October. So we're looking at maybe a few more weeks of high pollen count, more needs for antihistamines, things like that,” says Muha.

That is why she is filling more prescriptions. Muha says it is possible to stay active while taking allergy medicine.

“There are some things that you can take once a day with no sedation, things like that that make it able to work and function without any side effects,” she says.

“It happens to a lot of people, me included,” says Dr. Jeremy Jackson.

Jackson says even he can not escape allergies.

“I get a runny nose, just like everybody else,” says Dr. Jackson.

He says if you are going to be outside, there are steps you can take.

“Change your clothes if you've been outside a while. The pollen and such can settle on the clothes and make allergies worse,” says Dr. Jackson.

Doctors and Pharmacists say they expect to stay busy for the next few months.

Health officials say you should talk to your physician before deciding to take medication for allergies.

And the republicans will tell you that it has nothing to do with global warming despite the ability for ragweed to grow and bloom more preventaly than ever before due to the warming of the earth---must only affect democrats.
