Gleneagle Residents Want Neighborhood Back

People living in the Gleneagles subdivision say Wednesday's deadly shooting is just another sign their neighborhood is a hotbed for crime, and it's only getting worse.

According to police crime maps, nearly all of the crimes reported in the subdivision came from the apartment complex on Polo Club Boulevard, which were built over a year ago.

"We were told they were suppose to be luxury apartments, but instead it became a low-income housing project," said Carolyn Ross, who lives in Gleneagles.

Ross lives in a home directly behind the apartment complex and says before they were built, crime there was non-exsistant. Her home was also hit by one of several stray bullets from Wednesdays shooting.

"It hit the back of our house and my mom was home at the time, it's just too much and something needs to be done," Ros ssaid.

Her mother, Jo Ross, says she moved to Gleneagles four years ago to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the crime it often brings.

"It's just sad, there are so many good people living here and we feel like our neighborhood has been stolen from us," Jo Ross said.

She says police are always at the apartment complex and she doesn't feel safe anymore.

"It's really a shame, I don't want to move, but if this continues, we may not have a choice," said Jo Ross.

Nearly every home on their street is for sale, rent or at one point in the last year was up for sale.

"Our property values have gone way down, if it wasn't for the slow housing market right now, we would try to sell too, but nobody wants to buy these homes," said Carolyn Ross.

Other residents tell 27NEWSFIRST they plan to take their concerns to the city, to ask for more police patrols. They say if that doesn't happen, they may be forced to do as so many of their friends and neighbors have done, pack up and move out.

"This is still a great neighborhood in most places, but this one spot is giving us a all a bad reputation," Carolyn said.

Ok let's think about this. With all of the nice big houses, why would someone break into a section 8 apartment at 8am? Hmmm...does anyone else find this suspicious? I highly doubt this was a robbery, sounds to me more like a drug related murder that they told the police it was a robbery.

What can we do as citizens to overturn this decision of the substation being built?

this is crazy what these people are saying. what makes you any better then them, what if you lose your job you would be lucky to live in such a nice place. i've looked at the apartments and the are very nice on the inside and the management team was great and all of the residents were nice and the property was very quiet and clean. But lets get real our homeowners assocation dosnt, make enough money in 10 years what those apartments make in 1 year so get it out of your mind to buy them out and you just cant force families out of there homes and on the street and when you have so many people living so close of course theres going to be more crime reports. if you put everyone who lives on shaker run togather there going to have more crime reports then a place that is laided out far apart.Get use to them there going to be here for a while and what if some kid that lives in the apartments looks on here and see what you are calling them and there family you all should be ashamed of yourselv.

Welcome to the real world Gleneagles when the east end projects was first torn down they moved these folks to our area Winburn, Tates Creek, and anywhere else they could stuff these people we have suffered with High crime rates, Drugs for several years now, didn't hear a peep when everthing was happening in our neighborhoods, but now it has hit home to you! so join the crowd these folks probably don't have section 8 folks living near Jim Newberry! or any other council mebers so they don't give a care what's happing in yours until it happens to them I have lived in the Winburn Area about 16 years and until these folks moved here it was ok but now you know Gleneagles join the rest of us now!!

bottom line you bring in thugs and lowlifes and say here is a new place to live and we even put you in a good school district and nothing changes, the roots of sorry soon will appear again. no matter what a bad apple will always spoil other good apples if left in contact with them. folks paid good money to be in good neighborhood and you let the lowlifes in and now you have a overpriced ghetto. they all said if we put them in good neighborhood they would change, you cant change the spots on a leopard, they are what they are, it is what it is period.

Someone needs to go to the owner of these crimeplexis and buy them out! Then tell all of the tenents that when their leases are up, they will no longer accept gov't money. They could turn those apartments completely around and make something nice out of them. It's not too late to make them luxury apartments! You would get a lot more money out of it in the long run! They would make up the money just by not having to pay for the repairs that's having to be done to them right now! Just exactly how many bullet holes and blood stains did they have to pay to fix, anyway?! Come on people! We need to get a petition going to get this scum outta here and take back our neighborhood! Everyone needs to go to the address listed below by Anonymous and send letters, emails, whatever we need to do to get this taken care of. They had no right to do this without letting us know what was going on!

I live in gleneagles and did a little researching on this because things have gotten so bad. A company called Winterwood, Inc. manages the place and they manage a lot of these types of housing complexes. They have a website and you can find it if you search for winterwood, inc. Ed Lane is the council member for the area to complain to and here is his contact info. I will be calling!!! Ed Lane edlane@lfucg.com 258-3221

The people who live in the apartments are not HOODRATS there are alot of elderly people who live there and cant afford a house and oh guess what for your information it was listed for 4 years before they were buit as section 8. AND THERE WAS CRIME HERE BEFORE THE WHERE BUILT WE ARE RIGHT OFF THE INTERSTATE THERE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE. AND YOUR SAFE TO COME OUT OF YOUR HOUSE IM 16 AND I LIVE IN THE GLENEAGLES SUBDIVSION AND I FEEL PERFECTLY SAFE. THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOU TO FEEL UNSAFE IF YOU PAY ATTENTION ITS ALWAYS THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE APARTMENTS UNDER ATTACK NOT THE PEOPLE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

you know there are better things to do then point fingers we should be worried for the victim and the person who's apartment was being broke into just because they dont live in a big nice house dosn't mean they are any less of a person as you and me so guess what the apartments are going to be here for a very long time so its time to get off your high horse and get over it. Always remember the person in the apartment was the one whos house was being broke in, and if you have ever been to the apartments they are beautiful on the inside. Yea they do except section 8 but they are a convetional property just like any other in lexington.
