Child Injured In Tragic Accident

Two sisters were playing in the front yard of a house in Bishop Lane in rural Green County, when police say the 5-year-old climbed into her mother's car and then was somehow able to put the car into gear.

The car then struck the 5-year-old's younger sister.

Police are not releasing the names of the children and the family didn't want to talk about the accident.

However, the girl's uncle said the 3-year-old should recover.

Police say she is currently listed in stable but critical condition at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.

No charges were filed, but police are still investigating.

The accident happened in a rural section of Green County, near the Metcalfe County line.

Accidents DO happen. I couldn't reach the mailbox one time so I opened the door and got out to check the mail as the car was running and the wind blew & my elbow hit the door lock as the car door closed, my child was 18 mos & in car seat, it was winter time with snow on ground & my coat in car. I couldn't leave him to get extra key inside house and no one was around, so I had to coax him to get himself out of car seat and unlock door.He wanted to drive instead, I had a terrible time getting him to open door & not drive, I thought for sure he was going to change gears too. I was just lucky! Very lucky. Never judge because that accident CAN happen to you! I pray for this family!

Judge not lest ye be judged...be carefull in throwing comments. It is so easy to find fault in people's life. but you need to STOP and find the good. The little childrren was playing just like posted by RB. children are curious we all was little once. We need to give God praise the child is recovering. how many times has a parent been in the same room when a child has fell It's bad to say but accidents do happen..lets just pray for this family instead of making rude comments. Be carefull what you say about people untill you have walked in there shoes. offer them incouragement instead of discouragement. stop by to see if they need anything. instead of talking bad about them...May God Bless this family...

These children were too young to be left outside playing with no supervision. I get very upset when I keep hearing about all these "accidents" involving young children who are not being supervised. I feel bad for this family but I also find it absurd that a 3 and 5 year old were playing so close to an unlocked vehicle with no supervision.

DEFINITELY DO NOT POINT FINGERS...I WAS OUTSIDE WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER YESTERDAY..I TURNED MY BACK FOR ONE SECOND AND SHE HAD CLIMBED INSIDE MY CAR AND LOCKED THE DOOR....FORTUNATELY, MY E-BRAKE WAS PULLED SO SHE COULDN'T KNOCK IT INTO GEAR. HER GETTING INTO THE CAR HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NEGLECT!! SHE'S 5 AND CURIOUS WHAT SHE CAN GET AWAY WITH!

I wonder if you have children, Anonymous? I do not believe people should judge, especially when one doesn't know the full story

This happened to my cousin when he was a small child except he didn't hit anyone. He climbed into his dad's truck and slipped the truck from 1st gear to neutral and then proceeded to drive down a small embankment and into their living room!! No one was injured but these types of accidents do obviously occur and I pray that the little girl recovers completely and their lives get back to normal ASAP.
