New Hunting Grounds Opening Up In October

A coal company is opening 5,000 acres of land in two eastern Kentucky counties to hunters.

This comes just as elk season is about to get underway. Consol Energy and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife reached an agreement to allow public hunting on the property in Knott and Floyd Counties. The land, off Highway 550 near Mousie, is expected to open to hunters by October 4th.

To the person below, *************** : It's very obvious you know very little about the law. I suggest you contact an attorney and get the correct information on what you need to do when it comes to posting your property. As for you being a former POLICE OFFICER... WELL, I'M STILL LAUGHING ABOUT THAT ONE. I bet you were just a cop wanna be. Do you get off trying to degrade the Law enforcement we have in Knott County? Well punk , do you. I agree with Anna, You do come across as being MENTAL.

You sound like a threat, are you threating hunters? You know that goes both ways. Just because you were a former Police officer doesnt give you the right to shoot people. That's probally why you are a former officer! You need to be locked up and the key thrown away, you sound mental........

My family and my mothers home sit on our property next to CONSOL coal in Mousie. Our property exceeds twenty acres it goes from hwy 550 all the way to the mountain top at Fourmile. We have had problems with theives in the recent past harassing and damaging our properties. I was even shot two years ago on my own property defending my mothers house. No police would respond. No sheriffs office or KSP had the guts to come. Therfore tread lightly and stay off our property. Since we have no law enforcement in this county, whatever force necessary to get you off our land will be used. The property line begins on hwy 550 at Willie Pattons residence east corner and ends at 20 feet up 11185 Hwy 550 east to the top of the mountain. Don't even cross it with a gun or slingshot. Our homes have been pelted with rocks continually. When a offier does come, they are gone within five minutes. Its a waste of time calling them. I have been a policeman, fed, and police cheif I know the law. DON'T!
