HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Gov. Augustus Owsley Stanley is missing.
City officials suspect thieves took the historical marker commemorating the governor and selling it for scrap, but leaving behind the sign post in Henderson.
City Engineer Doug Boom tried to track down the marker. Boom says he spoke the Highway Department office in Madisonville, where the marker had been sent for cleaning.
Highway department official Ronnie Browning says the marker was re-installed after being refurbished. Browning said other markers have been stolen and sold as scrap metal.
