National Guard troops from all over Kentucky said goodbye Monday as they prepared to deploy to Iraq.

The farewell ceremony for the 1163rd Medical Company kicked off in Shelbyville. Familiy members, community members, and politicians all showed up to say goodbye.

The 90 Kentucky National Guard troops will serve as medical support to the U.S. Infantry, and detainees. Their commander, Major Teresa Preston, says the troops are ready to serve.

Godspeed to all the troops. As a military wife who's been there, I know how the families are feeling. Remember, God smiles brighter on heroes! Be safe, Barnes...see you soon!
