National Guard troops from all over Kentucky are headed to Iraq after saying goodbye to their families.

The farewell ceremony for the 11 63rd Medical Company was Monday night in Shelbyville.

Family members, community members, and politicians all showed up to say goodbye.

The 90 Kentucky National Guard troops will serve as medical support to the U.S. Infantry, and detainees.

With the pomp and circumstance behind them, their commander says, the troops are ready to serve.

The 11 63rd's mission in Iraq is slated to last one year.
