Health Teacher Program Added to Local Schools

Highlands Medical Center officials met with local teachers to offer a new tool in the classroom.

"Health Teacher" is an online course offering lessons plans on health topics for students of all ages. Highlands officials hope this program can help prevent a number of health problems that are common in Kentucky.

Melissa Vance with the Highlands Medical Center says, "Our major illnesses in this area, we know that we have we know that we have diabetes, we know that we a battling heart disease, lung disease, in this area."

The "Health Teacher" program will be part of the curriculum in Floyd, Johnson, Martin, and Magoffin county schools.

    This would be wonderful if they can break the cycle that the parents have taught most of them "eat until you are sick and please don't hurt yourself exercising".

    doesn't make sense, if everyone practiced a healthy lifestyle the hospital would have less business, less money, less need of being there....better think this one through.
