Senate President Demands Apology From Lt. Governor

Senate President David Williams is demanding an immediate apology from Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo.

Williams says comments Mongiardo made in the Lexington Herald were inappropriate and insulting to rural Kentuckians.

Mongiardo told the paper that Barack Obama's apparent lack of support in rural areas is due in part to ignorance and racial discrimination.

Mongiardo is supporting Obama for president.

I think that it very inappropriate of a elected offical who was put in public office to down his home town community and label the rural area. are you including your father who owns liquior store as being ignorance and being of racial discrimmination or is it that everyone else is. if meomory serves you played as a child with the rest of us grew up with us so called ignorance people i dont believe i every heard a radical remark in this community from anyone. we make up our own decision who to vote for i guess the home town support we gave you was just to support you cause not to help the people in eastern ky region what happen to get miners health insurance back as promise sell out for ingnorance

It is a shame that our own elected officials continue to use this form of oppression. If people continue to see us as backward and ignorant, who would care what happens in rural Ky. For example mountaintop removal is a hot topic, but who cares what happens to us backward ignorant people. After all our own Lt. governor says we are backward and ignorant!

STOP MAKING THIS ELECTION A RACIAL ISSUE, this election is much more complicated than just a racial issue. How can anyone elect a person president that say the pledge to the flag of USA, Is sworn in on a musleim bible yet he want to run the USA, why don't he go to Iraq and run for President.

Its a shame that kentuckians look down on their fellow kentuckians for a supposed ignorance and racist bias..I suppose all of you that believe the comments are certain that "ALL" rural Kentuckians are racist and ignorant?????? Thats a sad and uninformed view portrayed by the media...This isnt the early 19th century..BUT I suppose some will say "No, I know its that way becuase "I read this or that" or because "My brothers, uncles, sisters roomate told me that rural kentuckians are racist and ignorant".or because "I drove thru Pike county 12 years ago. i know how it is".... yea, we are the ignorant ones....

David Williams has always held a grudge against Daniel Mongiardo and he's the one should be apologizing. Dan was just telling the truth, something all too uncommon among politicians these days. The Democrats clearly have the best ticket for the country. The Republicans don't even give us a fighting chance.

Rural Kentuckians won't vote for Barack and that's really sad considering the democrat pary is the ONLY one who will ever help them.---What has Bush,McCain and McConnell done for you lately?

I am no huge supporter of Lt Gov Mongiardo's but his comments are entirely appropriate. He says that lack of support is due IN PART to ignorance and discrimination. My in laws have always voted for democrats but will not vote for Obama because they think he is Muslim (ignorance) and because he is back (discrimination). They are far from the only people in the hills that feel that way.
