LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - State officials say they warned property valuation administrators last year not to hire or promote relatives.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the Kentucky Department of Revenue issued the caution nearly 18 months ago, telling PVAs such practices would be improper.
The Executive Branch Ethics Commission on Friday announced it would begin formal investigations of 11 PVAs for hiring or promoting their parents, spouses, children or siblings.
PVAs assess the worth of property for tax purposes.
The offices are the only elected county posts considered state offices.
The PVAs filed motions in Frankfort on Wednesday, seeking to stop the investigation and have the Commission held in contempt of court.
