Officials say business is booming in one southern Kentucky town... despite the sluggish economy. We spoke with some folks in Somerset who say things are looking up with no slow down in sight.

The Somerset White Castle opened friday to lines of people who camped out for the first burgers.

Gail Gurney, district manager of the Somerset White Castle says, "They were very very long, they were out on 27, wrapped around the parking lot, in front of Walmart."

As one of many new businesses to open in the past few weeks, officials with the chamber of commerce say the city is not affected like some would think by the national economic crisis.

President of the Somerset Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, Allen Anderson says, "It's not the best of times, but with all things considered, we feel very fortunate that we have what we have going on."

And these newcomers are sure their business will be a success.

"We brought about 40 jobs to Somerset, our business is going well." says Gurney.

Anderson says there are talks of adding a new commercial airport as well as a new call center that would bring about 75 new jobs.

"With new industry coming in, it's not all just about the industry but what type of place this is to live in," says Anderson.

Anderson says Somerset is a draw for many businesses as a small town with the big town feel. Though they've see a slow down in homes being built in Somerset, Allen Anderson says he's still seeing people moving to the area.

40 jobs for a county of around 60,000. Yeah, that sounds great... I will say the funniest thing is his claim that it's a small town with a big town feel. There's nothing big town about Somerset. When you have to drive more than an hour to find a truly decent restaurant, among other issues, you're not in a "big town."

What crack are you smoking? The only jobs popping up in the area are minimum wage dead end jobs. White Castle and other fast grease pits are not going to save the economy.

There is a huge operating Gas and oil field in the very Eastern Pulaski County. Even the neighbors do not know about the field. Who owns it. Who is working it and where is the gas and oil going?

Yes, that Rogers is one of the Kings of pork barrel projects and that's why I am voting the other direction.

lets get real, no positive spin on this situation is going to convince the public that times are serious now and now is not the time to spend on anything but food and water. Soon riots and looting will be a problem in this country.
