INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (AP) - A northern Kentucky police official
says evidence suggests that the person who fired shots at a home where a fire had been reported was among the three people found
dead inside the house.
But Independence Police Chief David Nichols wouldn't elaborate
on the evidence on Wednesday.
Nichols says police and firefighters who arrived at the burning home to the sound of gunfire found three family members dead inside and a toddler wandering around outside unharmed.
The dead were identified as 43-year-old Seaward Padilla, his 45-year-old wife, Lori Padilla, and their daughter, 22-year-old Jessica Padilla. The child was Jessica Padilla's 2-year-old daughter.
Neighbors say the Padillas had a long history of domestic squabbles. Family friend Greg Waite says relatives have no immediate comment and plan to make a statement later in the week.
