A couple convicted in the death of a ten-year-old girl were sentenced on Thursday afternoon.

Last month, a jury found Patrick and Joy Watkins guilty of the murder of Patrick's daughter, Michaela. The father claimed she died after falling down the stairs.

A medical examiner says they believe she was beaten with a wooden object and the injuries led to her death.

The jury recommended a life sentence and the judge agreed with that decision at Thursday's hearing.

Defense attorneys say they plan to appeal the convictions.

They both should have received the death penalty. That little girl had no choice but to die and they get to live every day, living off tax payer's money, eating 3 meals a day and watching cable. I don't think so. Fry them both. I'll be more than happy to flip the switch for you.

They should have done to them, the same way they did that poor little girl. God will punish them for what they did to her.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE GOT LIFE UNTIL DEATH. ISN'T THAT WHAT LIFE SHOULD BE?????? OR WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE ANYWAY????? 20 YEARS??? IS THAT HOW LONG AN AVERAGE PERSON LIVES??? HOW OLD WAS MAKAYLA?? (10 YEARS OLD) HOW SAD. I THINK WHEN SOMEONE IS SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON IT SHOULD MEAN JUST THAT!!!!! LIFE!! UNTIL YOU DIE. TO ME, WHEN THEY GIVE A SENTENCE OF LIFE IT IS NOTHING BUT A LIE...BECAUSE THEY STILL LIVE AND HAVE THEIR LIFE. THEY WILL BE OUT IN A FEW YEARS PROBABLY AND BACK WITH THEIR OTHER CHILDREN TO DO SOME MORE HARM.
