Powell County authorities say 23-year-old Edward Hall was working at the Clay City transfer station when he escaped, possibly with the help of his girlfriend.

Police want to speak with Cassie Lewis, the girlfriend of the escapee, saying she might be driving his get-away car.

Hall was just 4 months into a 5 year sentence for burglary and theft and Thursday was his first day of the work release program.

Hall was seen walking back and forth from one building to another and then witnesses say he walked into the woods behind the building.

Police used dogs to try and find the scent, which led them a parking lot behind the transfer station. It's believed Hall had a car waiting for him and Lewis could have been driving.

Powell County deputies then made a phone call to the school district who immediately put all schools on lock-down beginning at 11:20 on Thursday just as a precaution.

Schools remained on lock-down for the entire day.

Police continue to search for the escaped inmate, Edward Hall.

I will never understand why people run when they are out getting to work!! I know in paris when an inmate goes out to work they do get some time off. There use to some inmates here that done work for the fire dept I'm on and they took off in one of our fire trucks. These guys who done this only had like a month to serve and now they have alot more time. They say we missed treated them, Now tell me how when we would go get them out of a cell and then they would work for like 30 minutes and take a break for like an hour or so, They ate up all our food and drunk up all our soda and we never said a word to them about any of it. SO PLEASE TELL ME HOW WERE WE BEING MEAN AND MISS TREATING THEM? And why would you want to run and get more time? Mr.Hall I really think you like jail cause you wouldn't mess up and get more time I have to say you are dumb. Let me also tell you all something YOU may out run 1 officer or maybe 2 but you can not out run there RAIDO's so think about it befor you act
