"Second Sunday" Shuts Down Roads For Fitness

Leave your car at home! This Sunday at least 71-counties across Kentucky will shut down a road or street and encourage people to come out for fitness.

In Lexington, Limestone from the Avenue of Champions to Third Street will be closed on Sunday from 2-6 pm. Free events will include Tai Chi, group cycling, baby stroller workout, a dog bone hunt, group exercise, and bike polo.
Organizers say "Second Sunday" will put Kentucky on the national radar.

The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service has helped organize "Second Sunday" around the state.

Well so much for restricted access here in Lexington. My wife and I were riding down South Limestone when an older lady almost hit us driving the wrong way down Maxwell and tried to turn onto South Limestone. She wanted to continue but I quickly sent her back following the street sweepers going the wrong way down Maxwell. And what were the street sweepers doing kicking up dirt and dust during this event? Granted the streets were littered with broken glass, gravel etc. but one would think that this would have been done before the event. The bike lanes on Euclid had gravel, glass and nuts and bolts on it. I'v gotta give the LFUCG an A for effort but an F overall, and yes Mayor Jim was there.

I'm not sure about your location but here I believe they have restricted access to keep motorists from coming into the area that has been reserved for walkers, bicyclists, skaters, etc.

Now if we can only ride without a motorist mowing us down.
