Hundreds of eastern Kentucky National Guard Soldiers in the 201st Engineer Battalion will miss the holidays this year because they are in Afghanistan.
Family members want to send their loved ones items they are missing from home, so the group is collecting some things and packing boxes.
Rosie Music's two step-sons are fighting in Afghanistan along with hundreds of others Eastern Kentucky Soldiers in the 201st Engineer Battalion.
Music and other soldier's families want to take care of their loved ones even though they are overseas.
The troops left in March, and many of their personal items are running out. Music and others are collecting items to send to them.
“Because that's what you do when the soldiers are deployed out, that you take care of your soldiers,” Music Said.
It is no easy task.
Families say what the soldiers need right now are hygiene items and non-perishable food items.
They are also collecting games and books to entertain the soldiers in their down time.
No matter what is inside the boxes, Music says her step-sons and their friends look forward to getting them, “They do, it really pleases them to get things from home because they enjoy it.”
If you cannot give any items, Music hopes the pieces of home, will help the soldiers until they can come back home.
The group hopes to send the boxes by November 1st.
If you would like to donate anything, you can contact your nearest National Guard office or just drop off the items at the armories.
