A memorial service was held Tuesday, ten years to the day after Harrodsburg Police Officer Regina Nickles was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Nickles was checking out a report of a suspicious person when John Paul Works shot her.

He's now serving a life sentence.

A monument now stands at the Mercer County Courthouse in Nickels' honor.

Dozens gathered for a memorial service on Tuesday at the Mercer County Courthouse. A flag was dedicated to Nickles' daughters.

Nickles' family spoke to 27 NEWSFIRST and say they are thankful the community is still keeping Nickles' memory alive.
