Two Suspects Arrested In Obama Effigy

Police have arrested two suspects in the effigy of Presidential candidate Barack Obama on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

The two suspects have been identified as Hunter Bush and Joe Fischer. They're charged with disorderly Conduct 2nd, Burglary 2nd, and theft by unlawful taking. Fischer is a UK student.

Someone found the effigy hanging from a tree on the University of Kentucky campus.

The item was discovered Wednesday morning in a tree along a walkway from Rose Street to the William T. Young Library.

It was immediately cut down from the tree.

President Lee Todd said he was "disgusted" by the discovery. Governor Steve Beshear also issued a statement saying he "strongly agrees" with President Todd.

This news is 6 months old (Obama effigy), why do you still have it on your site? I don't see anything about the Palin effigytyhat was up in another state. Wasn't that a hate crime against women?

I've fought for the freedom & rights of all people that are citizens of this country, regardless of color. One of those rights is the Freedom of Speech. Also, as a Native American, I get tired of this Race Card being played by some groups. Get over it, we have. And we got screwed alot worst than the blacks.

in West Hollywood CA, 2 men hung an effigy of Sarah Palin in their front yard. they insisted on not taking it down claiming that it's for Halloween and everyone seemed satisfied with that and allowed them to keep the effigy up. now, especially since the democrats are bringing back the fairness doctrine, where is the fairness in this? first of all i don't want to hear that it's racial. somehow, although nooses were used throughout history, it is now racist to have a hangman's noose hanging anywhere. we used to make hangman's nooses as kids because they looked cool. we knew nothing about racism. but god forbid anyone do this nowadays because they will be targeted as racist. oh, unless of course you are hanging effigies of white people. that's ok because it's time the whites pay back for all the bad things that have happened to blacks. even though most white people in the modern usa had nothing to do with slavery or any kind of racism whatsoever. but let's make them PAY! What is the deal with this candlelight vigil planned for Wednesday? Has the University lost all common sense? Don't you know this will only "keep the pot stired"? You've already made a big enough deal out of this incident to maintain your minority population. They won't run off to UL. Enough is enough!

Why is there so much hate from all of the comments? I mean, hello people! I hear some saying that they are "embarassed" to be a Kentuckian because of this act. But, I'm not embarassed to be a kentukian. The act involved 2 people, not the entire state. And actually, no people i know, are not like this. Kentucky has some of the friendliest people I have ever met. I believe each country, each state, and each type of person has its own "defect". Please, people, come on. Think about Obama, his "morals" and "values", and get on www.obama.com and PLEASE PLEASE read about his "plan" for America, OVERALL! Compare with McCains' plans, and see that Obamas' plan adds up and McCains does not. It is imperative that we vote according to who has more experience with a 'brain--> Obama" as opposed to more experience with a 'gun--> McCain'. WHY? Because one must have enough sense to aim it and pull the trigger. Obama aims right on target. Where is McCain aiming America? Do you wanna know? VOTE OBAMA!

This has been blown way out of proportion!!! College prank! i seen the effigy of sarah palin, and there is no difference. Put the race card down and let's deal with human issues, not race ones. Some people will change, some people wont, and those that won't still have the right to their own beliefs. You cannot change that. So focus on the ones that are ready to make a difference and move FORWARD from there. Everyone is too busy looking in hindsight.

Typical Lexington racism. Don't like African-Americans, Mexicans, blah, blah. Unless they coach a winning UK basketball team, though. Then it's all hunky-dory. Pathetic. This town needs to change and get with the present!!!
