Even though it hasn't really felt like fall, several Lexington groups are teaming up to get some elderly residents ready for a drop in temperatures.

The Prepare Affair Program targets elderly, low-income residents who may need help winterizing their homes.

A partnership between Lowe's Heroes Program, The Realtor Community Housing Foundation, the Home Builders Association of Lexington, Shiloh Baptist Church and the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors was formed to make the projects happen.

Six homes along LaSalle Road in Lexington are being winterized through the partnership.

In most cases, volunteers replace windows, doors and gutters in an effort to keep heating and cooling costs down for the homeowners.

More than 60 volunteers will work on these homes over about a week; they'll also do some basic cleaning and yard work.
