Woman Falls 40 Feet From Cliff

Crews worked Saturday night to rescue a young woman who fell 40 feet off a cliff in the Red River Gorge.

It happened off Princess Arch Trail. We're told 18-year old Brandy Timerding of Erlanger fell around 9:30pm, but was still responsive and is communicating with friends.

It took search crews almost three hours to reach her. Timerding is currently recovering at U.K. Hosptial. At last check, she was listed in good condition,

I think it is bad that people go to the gorge and make poor decisions leading falls and injury. Other people then must risk their lives to rescue them. I am thankful that the VOLUNTEER rescue workers do the job, but I think that it is irresponsible to camp in the area and use drugs and alcohol. This is asking for tragedy. Maybe camping there should be banned completely. There are lots of rescues in the gorge each year that put many people in danger. There are also many deaths in the area each year. Why not take care of the problem by making it illegal to be there after dark?

Too bad she and everyone with her were on all kinds of drugs/alcohol... the situation wasn't helped by the mother not being around.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, they were supposedly camping FIVE FEET FROM THE CLIFF'S EDGE (that's cutting it a little close). You wake up in the middle of the night...WALK OUT TO PEE AND CEASE TO BE!
