Driving While Talking On Your Cell Could Soon Be Against The Law

Several states have passed laws that prohibit drivers from talking on their cell phones while driving.

And now if one lawmaker has his way a similar ban could be coming to Kentucky.

"Some people want to ban cell phone usage entirely while in a vehicle, I do not, however I do want to limit how people can use them," said Rep. Dave Floyd with the 50th District.

Under his proposal drivers would be allowed to use their cell phones in the car, but they would need to be using a handsfree device.

"Technology has made it possible for wireless devices, people can also use speaker phone, which allows us to make a call without taking our hands off the wheel while talking," said Floyd.

This proposal will come under consideration in February 2009. Should it pass and become law, it could go into effect as early as next July.

But during the first year only warnings will be given and it wouldn't be until 2010 before officers could actually fine drivers.

Should state lawmakers ban the use of cellular telephones while driving?

Seriously? I'm pretty sure there are far worse things than talking on the phone while driving, like driving drunk. Also, when is kind of stuff going to end. We're slowly having all of our rights taken away from us. American government is becoming less like a democracy and more like a socialist or communist government. I don't know if it upsets me more that our country is being taken over by dictators or that the people here are not only allowing it to happen, but totally approve of it. WAKE UP!!!! What's it going to take for people to realize what is going on here?!?!?!

While I think talking on a cell phone is distracting for some it will be hard to enforce. If you ban talking on a cell phone and a person can get cited for it, here are a few other things than should get someone cited: eating or drinking a beverage while driving; talking on a CB radio; putting on makeup; using a laptop computer; using a GPS; smoking; having a dog on your lap; driving with one foot hanging out the window or on your dash (yes people do this); singing along with your radio; giving someone the finger (both hands aren't on the wheel; and so on and so on. To put it simply; if law enforcement sees someone driving in an unsafe manner, they should pull them over. Some people can multi-task while others can't. I don't approve of doing more than one thing while driving but I'm guilty like the next person. I know I can do it but if I am driving unsafe, I have no problem if I get pulled over. Common sense people; if you drive unsafe, you pay the price.

There is such thing as a BLUE TOOTH! As for my dogs, I will NOT leave them home. I take them everywhere I go.

I believe they should ban cell phones while driving. I have almost been hit several times by people talking on cell phones not watching what they are doing. You even see people trying to text and drive with their legs.

NO, comments are selected on whether they agree with them or not, whether they would P.O the church-nuts, and whether you are praising the story. Any criticizing or freethinking will not be tolerated. This is America still...why don't you let people be heard instead of editing things to show whatever light you endorse.

What if you don't have the money to buy a hands free devices? Some prepaid phones can't not have a hands free devices?

Another freedom will be taken. What next? We are slowing losing our freedoms & so many are all for it! They don't realize that one day, we will be like China, Russia, or some of the other countries with NO freedoms at all! Socialist & Dictators are coming to America and the American people are stupid enough to welcome them with open arms~!
