Sounding Off On CentrePointe

The CentrePointe project has stirred all sorts of debate around Lexington, from people saying it shouldn't be built to critics of the design.

Monday, the city got its first look at the final plan for what will soon be the city's tallest skyscraper, and of course people are talking.

27 NEWSFIRST took to the streets of Lexington to get the opinion of the common man. People had all sorts of views on the $250 million project. Some said they were looking forward to seeing it completed in 25 months. Others said they though it stuck out in comparison to the rest of the city's buildings.

Like it or not, the 35 story is on its way to being on top of Lexington's landscape.

It completely baffles me that Gray - who owns a construction firm of his own - is regarded as a credible critic. Every single Herald-Leader article loves to point out "by the way, Vice Mayor Gray is opposed!" And yet they never think it's newsworthy to point out that he arguably has a conflict of interest. This bizarre campaign against Centrepointe has been angering for many central KY citizens.

By continually throwing up obstacles, Jim Gray and others have assured that there will be a hole in downtown for the next six months. And now they want to complain about it. Jim Gray has apparently been reading the Mike Scanlon play book, and we know how that ended. http://lfucg.granicus.com/MediaPlaye...=4&clip_id=895 Here is a link to the video of Webb's meeting with the city council.

I would really like to know the backstory of the vice-mayor's and even the Herald Leader's opposistion to Centrepointe. It's borderline traitorous to the city.

Was by the site today and saw some activity. And they put up a new construction sign with a picture of the building. Having the state's tallest building is going to be awesome for the city! And the skyline is going to be so good looking.

Can't wait until this thing starts going up. I have a front row seat at Park Plaza. Going to be an awesome sight.

This is great. Looks like a mini-Chrysler building! I'm glad to see Lexigton forging ahead in improving downtown. Been a long time coming. I hope to see a "4th Live" type area in the future. UK is within walking distance! I understand there's going to be a new Malone's and a sports bar in Centrepointe? That would be great.

How tall to the top of the spire? Is it still going to be the states tallest? Hope so. Nice to have it Lexington for the first time.
