One Year Case Of The Hiccups

We've all had the hiccups, but it usually goes away quickly.

Don't tell that to a man living in Louisville, who says as of the end of November it will be one year he's been suffering with hiccups and the situation is getting worse.

Milton Betts says he's tried dozens of prescriptions, almost every folk remedy, and even went to the Mayo Clinic for nerve block surgery.

"I believe in God and I trust God, but I tell my wife sometimes if I got to be like this the rest of my life I'd just rather go on 'cause it's very frustrating,” Betts said.

Milton says he's also willing to under-go experimental treatment if it could help.

Milton, I had hiccups for a week straight and they finally stopped only after doing the following: Get a big glass of water, take small sips as quick as you can and keep swallowing as quick as you can. After you do this for a short time, you will be out of breath and feel like you are drowning. All of a sudden, you should feel a big burp coming on and away go the hiccups. You might have to do this two or two times before they finally go away for good. Lots of luck. You have my prayers and I hope this works for you.

Hey Milton, I know everyone has a solution but this seems to work, repeatedly, for different people (near 100%). Soak (drench it) a slice of lime with aromatic bitters (Angostura) and suck on it. It tastes horrible--but sems to work. Try it 2-3 times if it doesn't work right away...good luck.

Milton Betts might want to try NLP (Neurolinguistic Programing) or hypnosis, anything that accesses the unconscious mind. It is very very helpful. Please let me know if he receives this email. Blessings, Beth

Try this - it takes one other person. 1 - Use both hands and and close off your ears with your thumbs and your nose with your little fingers 2 - Take a BIG breath IN 3 - Have another person help you drink a big glass of water - drink as much as you can. My mother had severe hiccups and landed in the hospital for many weeks. Someone told her to try this - and it worked. I have helped others with hiccups many times using this method and it has NEVER failed. Hope it helps you

Does he know about acupressure points? There's a point on the side of your middle finger toward the index finger just below the top knuckle that if pressed or massaged deeply will stop hiccups. He probably needs to do both hands. It's worth a try - I hope it helps.

Milton, I have been burping for 3 years and no one seemed to know what to do, this is also caused from the vagus nerve. Mine started after I had surgery on a herniated disc. I finally went to a chiropractor and he was working with me but told me to see a myotherapist(look up bonnie pruden myotherapy) and I have certainly gotten some relief. It is not completely gone but as you know if you can get any relief it would be better than none. I still burp everyday but not contstantly. Just thought I would share this because I know how awful mine has been and I think hiccups would be worse. I will be praying for you and hoping you get some relief. Please feel free to contact me if you would like.

I have only found one thing that gets rid of them: drink water backwards. Drink the water while bending over. You are almost pouring it over your upper lip. Sometimes I need two glasses, but it always works.

Hi Milton, I've heard about your difficult situation through a local radio station. I'm sorry you are suffering so much. Please try to drink dill seed tea, at least 4 cups a day. For each cup use 1 heaped tsp. of dill seeds, poor boiling water over, steep 5 min., strain and drink. I also would like to offer you a distance energy healing. I practice Reiki, Quantum Touch, Quantum Healing and Pranic Healing. All I need from you is your permission for me to do so. I can't promise you perfect results, since I've never had a case like yours, but I would give it my best shot. Hey, who knows, miracles happen! Good luck! Karina
