Good Samaritan Shot

He says he stopped to help and ended up being shot.

It happened on Tuesday along U.S. 127, near Holmes Street, in Frankfort.

Police identified the victim as 35-year-old Jody Hatchett of Corinth.

He told police he stopped to help an elderly man, walking with a cane. Hatchett told police he thought the man needed assistance.

Hatchett says when he got out of his vehicle the man pointed a gun at his head and demanded money. Hatchett says he tried to push the gun away and ended up getting shot in the right hand.

The shooter then ran away from the scene.

Hatchett was taken to the Frankfort Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to Louisville for treatment.

Well, being as I work in Frankfort, I could've told you that you don't stop ANYWHERE near Holmes Street in Frankfort and help anyone out. KEEP DRIVING and call the police. Holmes St is full of drugs, prostitution, and gang members. Frankfort PD has a continuous presence on that street at night because it's a criminal cesspool. Sometimes the old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" is true. Stay in your car, call the police, and let them help people. Don't try to do it yourself because you don't know who's going to kill you for being a good person. I'd rather be alive and cautious than helpful and dead. Hope the good samaritan recovers, and glad he/she was able to push the gun away before they were shot in the head.

It's bad when you can't help someone without getting hurt for good deeds. This country has gotten so bad, it's awful. That's why when I see someone stopped on the side of the road or anywhere looking like they need help, I keep a truckin unless if I know the pretty good. You don't know what might be in store. I know it sounds bad, but you never know what the next move will be. Hopefully the victim will be okay from the shot.

Hmmm... I could be wrong, but this story sounds a little fishy to me. I have a feeling this supposed elderly suspect will never be found.

The world has got so bad that it pays not to help anyone unless you know them really well. It shouldn't be like this , but it is.

where does it say that is wasn't an elderly man with a cane and a punk posing as an elderly man? i didn't read that. that's how facts get turned around so often. just read the article and not analyze it!

That is exactly why I don't help anyone these days. It shows the type of scumb that is only after money and drugs and to lazy to get out and work for it. My prayers go out to the man that was hurt. LIke others have said he will be scared to help someone again. Maybe someone who will actually need it..

This is awful,,, my prayers to the gentleman that was injured, hope he has a speedy recovery. he'll probably never help anyone again, what a shame. Isn't it terrible when you can't even offer a hand without being injured, he could've easily been killed today.

Thanks Mr. Hatchett, for at least trying to do the right thing. I hope this doesn't stop you from helping some one in the future.
