New Ways To Send Tips To Crime Stoppers

It's the way many of us communicate these days: text messaging and email.

And now, you can use your cell phone, or computer, to report crime tips anonymously.

Bluegrass Crime Stoppers has been taking anonymous tips over the phone for nearly two decades now.

But times have changed, and over the years, the way most people communicate has expanded. Viewers use email and text messaging. But until now, those methods couldn't be done anonymously.

Now, thanks to some new technology, you can text or email Bluegrass Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Your email will go to a server that will delete your IP address. As for texting, police say this will open a door for tips to come in from a new generation of cell phone users.

If you want to text a tip, you can do so by texting tips2020, plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

The number for the 24 hour answering service is 859-253-2020. Remember, tips can lead to a cash reward of $1,000.

I know texting well, but I don't understand "by texting tips2020, plus your message to CRIMES (274637)." Are you supposed to send the text to tips2020 or 274637. The instructions don't make sense.....but then again, kinda pointless as it'll be ignored anyway
