Targeting Online Predators

They are startling statistics. At any given time 50,000 child predators are on the Internet looking for a victim.

So we decided, with the help of investigators, to go online to see in a matter of hours how many of these predators would take the bait.

Detective Dave Hester was online since for two hours Thursday posing as a 13-year-old girl to see just how many men would try to contact him.

In a matter of two hours, he was contacted 17 times. Some older men continued to talk to him, even when he said he was a 13 year old girl, while a handful quickly stopped. One even sent him a nude photograph.

Someone who truly understands online crime such as this is a mother we spoke to whose 14 year old daughter was targeted online on the website Myspace.

The young girl became friends with someone after being told he was a pastor in a nearby town and wanted to help the young girl whose parents were going through a divorce.

The pastor was married and had two children, but what 40-year-old Timothy Scott Richerson didn't tell the family is that he was a former pastor, and was using the identity to reach out to young girls.

In this case, he called the 14-year-old constantly, drove two hours to talk to the family and chatted with her online. That's until her mother took notice and found some alarming messages sent to her daughter by the man.

After the mom contacted authorities, Richerson was sentenced to 120 months in prison for sexually exploiting a minor and using a computer to entice her.

Sickos are everywhere! America is obessed with sex. Just sit down & watch any TV for about 10 minutes & there's always some sexual reference given. Have only 1 computer with internet access in a room where you can see what's going on. Don't allow children to view TV, buy movies instead, that way you pick the content & montior what they see. As parents, we have to do whatever we can to protect our children from a society that's bent on destroying them. Parents even have to watch the school system because the sickos are there too. Teachers, coaches, etc.& who have only 1 thing in mind, destorying our children. I'm not saying that all teachers, etc. are that way, but there's TOO Many who are! Even the content of what is being taught in school can destroy our children. American culture & customs are being destroyed inside the classroom to make room for other counries' cultures & customs. Don't believe me, look at Christmas, it's an American Holiday, yet we cannot say Christmas in class.

I feel that the Lexington Police in coordination with the Kentucky State Police and Commonwealth Attorneys office should conduct sting operations in and around Fayette County on a regular basis. Even if 5 - 7 child predators are arrested even one child being safe would be worth the time and money to prevent these horrible acts. I feel that very few if any taxpayers would complain of tax money being spent to protect children. Prevention would be the key when crimes involve our children because NO child should have to suffer the physical, mental and emotional abuse of a child predator.

Good Job!! Catch all the creeps. How stupid they must be to think that it's OK to do this to children. They should take up a different hobby like cleaning toilets. It's just as nasty. Arrest them and send them to the lion's den or in a pit for stoning. Maybe criminal's would stop this nonsense if we had this kind of punishment.

ppl like that if they are caught ought to be put on a rocket and shot straight at the sun. after that happens once or twice i bet it would definately slow down if not stop.
