Trial Of Upset Tenant Charged In Arson Begins

The trial started Monday for a man accused of setting a fire at a Lexington apartment complex. Michael Mitchell faces federal arson charges.

Jury selection took much of the morning on Monday. More than 50 potential jurors were interviewed by legal counselors; 12 were chosen to sit during the trial.

Investigators say Michael Mitchell started a fire at the Kirklevington Hills Apartments in February of 2007. There were three fires at the complex within three months of each other.

Following one of those fires, Mitchell talked to 27 NEWSFIRST about not being able to get out of his lease, despite the dangerous situation there.

If convicted, Mitchell could spend 20 years in prison. The trail could last a week.

I knew this guy too. He was upset about the place but wasn't the ex-boyfriend of the manager the one who started the fire where a guy had to jump out his window? Why is he not in prison? This guy is nice and helped me move out... go after everyone!

I remember this guy.. When I was trying to break my lease thanks to all the fires.. he came to our meetings and seemed just as mad and frightened as the rest of us. Said he ha a lawyer and suggested we all go in together against the apartment complex. Knowing that he did this.. I hope he gets seriously punished. He disrupted a lot of lives serving his own selfish purpose.

Hey klepto, there are easier ways to break a lease that don't include spending up to 20 years in jail.
